Taking Ownership Gives You Your Power Back

In this episode, I talk about the importance of taking ownership of our lives, fully! By taking ownership for our life, we’re able to take more risk, feel more enjoyment, remove outside persuasion, and start seeing solutions and growth more rapidly.

If you’re playing the blame game, you lose the power to change your circumstances. If you’re unhappy in your marriage or with your kids or in your job or with your habits and you spend time pointing the finger outside of yourself, you won’t be able to change until you take responsibility. The quickest way to change your life is to take ownership of how you show up in all aspects – the good and the bad.

Show Notes:

1:30 TAKING OWNERSHIP OF YOUR PROBLEMS

During my recent team retreat, one of the most common themes while we were sharing our stories was taking ownership of part of our life. This is one of the most powerful things we can do.

If you’re playing the blame game, you have no control. If you’re unhappy in your marriage or with your kids and you spend time blaming, you won’t be able to change. Plain and simple! The quickest way to change your life is to take ownership of how you show up in all aspects – the good and the bad.

4:33 YOU’RE GOING TO TAKE MORE RISKS

You’re going to take risks. You will be able to figure it out. You will be able to deal with what comes after you take the risk. Perhaps you want to try something new, but you are afraid of something or you’re afraid of what others will say about you. Whatever it is, you’re afraid of something else that won’t have anything to do with you – so you don’t do it.  If you take full ownership of the situation, the only way to fail at anything is if you quit. And the only person in charge of quitting, is YOU!

6:00 MORE ENJOYMENT AND FULFILLMENT

You will feel far more enjoyment and fulfillment living for you than for somebody else. Oftentimes we live in a box that someone else has placed on us. We live our lives to kind of live up to someone else’s expectations. That’s a crappy way to live!

6:54 REMOVE THE POWER OTHER PEOPLE HAVE OVER YOU

You will take away the power that other people have over you right now. The blame game is the fastest way to stay stuck and unhappy. You’re going to do the crap that it takes to prove the people in your life wrong (the ones that don’t support you off the bat).

8:58 FROM SEEING PROBLEMS TO SEEING SOLUTIONS

Your perspective shifts when you take ownership. You shift from seeing problems to seeing solutions. When we come to the point where we understand that we are the problem, but we are also the solution – we can take the steps to change.

In every situation, there is something more that we can control.

14:00 CHANGE OR APPRECIATE

When the blame game is your norm it’s a terrible place to live life because you feel helpless and nobody wants to feel that way.

I want you to make the decision to take responsibility for not just the good things, but also the bad things in your life. That’s when you’ll be able to change them. When you appreciate things, they can multiply.

Attitude is free. Nobody can make you feel a certain way if you don’t want to feel it. Take responsibility for how you’re feeling, take responsibility for the choices you’re making, and take responsibility for where you’re at today.
